Bob Dylan once said, "Everything happens when it's supposed to happen". That sounds either stupid simple or profoundly wise.
A few years ago my daughter bought me a beautiful jumbo Honduran Mahogany back & side set from LMI. Since it was a gift, I didn't really have a plan for it. The salesman suggested a matching top too, so all I could think about were small Martins & Gibsons. After years of looking at and thinking about the wood, I was sure I didn't want to make a small guitar and
throw a lot of wood away, so of course it had to be a jumbo. This happened to be my 40th guitar too, so J-40 it is (Jacqueline, jumbo, etc.) My concern about the mahogany top was that it might be too bright. I have it strung up now in the white(no finish) and I can't believe how balanced the tone is with lots of volume. Here are some pictures of it in various stages. I have Hipshot locking tuners with Grover Imperial style buttons and an anodized aluminum tailpiece of my own design and fabricated by me.
